The Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Croatia has sent an open letter to the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Storm Operation.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković dedicated a part of yesterday’s speech on the occasion of the celebration the Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day to paying respect to the victims of war crimes committed by the Croatian side. He has thus given a great contribution to the conciliatory marking of the 25th anniversary of the Operation Storm.
On Saturday August 1, the majority of tabloids (Večernje novosti, Informer, Kurir) and the Politika daily launched, on their front pages, a negative campaign against Boris Milošević, former president of Serbian National Council in Croatia, and currently Deputy Prime Minister of the Croatian Government for the announcement of his attendance at the official celebration of the Storm operation anniversary.

A new space intended for the use by civil society organisations, informal citizen initiatives and others free of charge – YIHR.hub at 8a Đorđićeva Street in Zagreb was officially launched on November 28. This was a double celebration: together with the hub opening, we celebrated the 11th birthday of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights.
The Youth Initiative for Human Rights strongly condemns a new proposal of the Ministry of Public Administration for amending the Law on Decorations and Awards of the Republic of Croatia, envisaging the establishment of a new high state decoration named after Franjo Tuđman (Grand Order of the President of the Republic Franjo Tuđman with Sash and Morning Star).
The Youth Initiative for Human Rights invites the President and Prime Minister, and Members of Parliament from governing and opposition parties to unite in the protection and promotion of human rights, and not in the roll-calls of those who point out to hatred and violence.
A group of YIHR activists from Serbia have completed a memorial tour of marking the Storm Operation in places where crimes were committed by a visit to the Jasenovac Memorial Site, that is, a site of the ‘Ciglana’ concentration camp ran by Ustashe during the rule of Independent State of Croatia in the Second World War.
Last weekend, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Serbia and the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia jointly marked the anniversary of the crime against civilian population committed in the course of the Storm Operation in August of 1995.
During his first official visit to the Republic of Croatia, Olufemi Elias, Secretary of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) had a meeting with the representatives of civil society organisations active in the area of transitional justice in Croatia.
