On Thursday afternoon, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights had a meeting with Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) at their office in Zagreb.

After the meeting, Serge Brammertz said: “On the occasion of today’s visit to Zagreb and Youth Initiative for Human Rights, I want particularly to stress the significance of organisations actively working on the promotion of rights of war crimes victims and facts established by ICTY, whose work contributes to better understanding of the past and reconciliation process.”

“We are honoured that Prosecutor Brammertz met with Youth Initiative for Human Rights during his visit to Zagreb. We see this as a recognition of our work so far. We have used the opportunity and informed Mt. Brammertz about the results of our research on the state of transitional justice process in Croatia, in particular the prosecution of war crimes. We emphasise the importance of ICTY’s legacy. ICTY’s work helps us and other organisations in advocating justice for victims and strengthening the process of reconciliation YIHR deals with, especially among young people from the generation that was not directly involved in the war of the 1990s”, said Nikola Puharić, co-ordinator of YIHR Reconciliation Programme.
