Director of the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Emir Suljagić has said today that genocide in Srebrenica cannot be reduced only to the mass murders of Bosniaks in July 1995, but it includes a continuity of events from May 1992 to July 1995, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the occasion of 25th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Serbia, the Independent Association of Vojvodina Journalists and forumZFD – Serbia have launched a permanent campaign “Never Again, For Anyone”. The goal is to draw attention of the broadest public and build a permanent reminder of the largest crime on the territory of Europe after the Second World War. In order never to happen again, to anyone, and for Srebrenica to become a universal anti-war symbol.
“Official nationalist narrative in Serbia has been going on for 25 years, it is only getting stronger, closed in itself, and this entire truth, regardless of being established before international courts and that the whole world sees it in one way. Serbia is the victim of nationalist narrative which puts it on the opposite side of international law and developed world”, said Ivan Đurić, Programme Director of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights to N1 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
The Youth Initiative for Human Rights, in co-operation with forumZFD, organized a study visit for twenty young activists from Serbia to the Srebrenica Memorial (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the Šljivovica Detention Camp in the Čajetina municipality (Serbia) on February 25-28 2020.
The silence with which the highest officials of the Republic of Serbia marked 11 July again casts a shadow of shame on Serbia.
